Bar Stool Makeover

I can't think of an easier way to update a piece of furniture than to give it a fresh coat of paint. And at the top of my "needs love" list were our (perfectly functional but a little too basic) barstools! Inspired by these, I decided to go for the paint dipped look.

And since I don't just have a barrel o' paint lying around to dunk the stools into, I had to be a little more creative with my technique. Here's how it works.

//SUPPLIES//
Sand paper
Cloth
Painter's or masking tape
Plastic bags
Paint

//STEP ONE//
Sand the area you want to paint to make sure it is clean and free of imperfections. After sanding, wipe stool with a damp cloth to remove debris.

//STEP TWO//
Decide where you want the paint line to be and mask it off. If you're using spray paint, be sure to cover all areas that you want to leave unpainted (plastic bags or newspaper work well). Be sure to seal all taped edges firmly.

//STEP THREE//
Paint everything below your masked tape line, using multiple coats if necessary to achieve a smooth look.

//STEP FOUR//
Allow paint to dry thoroughly before removing tape to reveal your new paint dip bar stool.
